Ku-ring-gai Council has voted to strengthen its position on a planning proposal at 345 Pacific Highway, Lindfield. The council will tell the proponent it wants affordable housing provided in perpetuity and will require setbacks to the highway frontage to allow intersection upgrades.
Councillor Taylor moved a revised motion that kept the staff recommendation but added two points: affordable housing in perpetuity and intersection upgrades at the Pacific Highway and Balfour Street, Havilah Road, including an extension of the right turn bay into Balfour Street.
"I haven't prepared a speech for this particular motion. I just want to say that affordable housing needs to be in perpetuity."
Councillor Taylor said the affordable housing provision should not be time limited. On traffic, the councillor said that anyone who has driven southbound near peak hour knows the pinch point at Lindfield needs to be improved, describing the right turn bay into Balfour Road as diabolical.
Councillor Ward backed the motion, saying affordable housing is a huge issue in the community and that if the council does not start to address it now it will be lagging behind.
The chair put the amended motion to the vote and declared it unanimous. The council also confirmed that one site inspection will be held at 77 Kulgoa Road, Pymble, with the date and time to be determined by staff.
The council also noted a written response to a question with notice on Norman Griffiths Oval. No decision was recorded on that response.
With no further business, the Mayor thanked councillors, staff and members of the public. The webcast will be available on the council website and minutes will be published within the next two working days. The meeting closed at 7.45.
